How To Get Your Goals Back on Track After a Bad Month
No matter how much we want to change our future we will always have days, weeks or months where we are not at our best. We can lose motivation, or just find ourselves a bit lost along the way. After going through a bit of a tough month where all of my goals kind of fell by the wayside, here is what I am doing to get myself back on track.
Take Some Time Out
The first thing you need to do is take a moment. I know you have probably been stressing that you haven't been on track and want to get going again as soon as possible but just take a day where you forgive yourself and just take a second to relax and not overthink how you have been acting in the last week or month.
Just don't think about your goal for those moments because you are probably tying your stress and unease to it right now. So just stop stressing about it and give yourself some time to just pamper yourself without worrying about what you need to get done.
I went away for the weekend and completely switched off for that while and I came back feeling so refreshed and ready to get back on track and start again. It really does make such a difference and a great way to draw a line and start again.
Put it Behind You
Once you have taken that moment and cleansed your mind and heart you want to put it behind you. You need to draw a line in the sand and no longer look back. All you are going to do now is focus on the present you so that future you will thank you.
There is no point looking at past you because there is nothing you can do about it now. Remember that it is normal to get off track once in a while so don't beat yourself up about it. That is done for now, so just start looking at what you can do moving forward.
I don't know about you but I notice that I don't stay as motivated when I am not consuming from others. Whether it is reading a self-help book or watching an inspirational Youtuber I think it is really important to take in lessons and positivity from as many sources as possible.
So pick up a new book that you have been meaning to read or listen to a new podcast. Whatever is in line with your goals and will help to motivate you and get you inspired to move forward.
Sometimes when life gets busy we stop doing these little things that inspire us and give us that little push. But you should always make time for them because those are the things that will really keep you on track.
Realign Yourself With Your Goals
A lot of the time when we get off track, we have forgotten our ‘why’. We stop thinking so deeply about what it is we really want to achieve and almost forget about what progress we should be making.
So get back to the drawing board. Go back to where you had your goals written down or get your vision board out and put it somewhere you will see every day. Or you can write down your goals again. Whatever it is, just make sure you remind yourself of what it is you are looking to achieve so you can get your action plan in place.
Try a New Approach
Maybe there is a reason you got off track. Maybe this particular goal isn't actually right for you or maybe the way you are trying to achieve it isn't the best route to go down. This could be a good time to take a deeper look at your goals and see if you still align with them or if there is a different way you can go about achieving them.
For example, I was trying to lose weight and giving myself a cheat day each Sunday. I wasn't losing weight very well at all and I was starting to overrun my cheat day into Monday and it just wasn't working out too well. Because of this I completely gave up for a while.
Now my goal is still the same; to get to a healthy BMI and be confident with my body. But I knew that my approach wasn't working, even if it does work for other people. So I no longer have cheat days, a lot of people will disagree with this but this is the best way for me and my body. As long as I recognize this and stick to doing it this way then I will succeed.
