How To Finally Start Drinking More Water
I have always been terrible at drinking water. I used to be the type of person that would look at the clock and realize that it was 1 pm and I still hadn't drank a single drop. My skin was terrible, I used to get water infections pretty often and I was struggling to lose weight. I had tried so many times to drink more but I could never remember and had nothing in place to hold myself accountable. So here is how to finally start drinking more water.
The one and only thing that worked for me was this super effective water bottle by HydrateM8 that tracks your intake of water. They have time stamps all down the side of the bottle and you have to reach each level by that certain time by drinking more water. The bottle is 900ml and you have to fill it up twice throughout the day. These bottles are so simple yet they make such a difference. I can see exactly how much I have drank and how much more I need to. Because there is a time stamp every hour, I am not forgetting for hours and then having to down a huge glass in the afternoon. It means that there is this constant reminder in front of me and I don't feel like I am forcing myself to drink, the little milestones are very achievable.
I could not recommend this type of bottle more. Like I said, it has been the only thing that has worked for me and it made such a difference. Here is how:
1. My Skin Is So Much Better
The biggest and most noticeable difference it has made is definitely my skin. I used to wake up each morning with a new spot and the marks left behind always took ages to go away so my skin looked even worse. But after a couple of days of drinking water religiously I noticed that I wasn't getting any new spots each morning. This was such a relief as I felt like I had tried everything to help my skin and this was the one thing that really worked.
Now obviously the marks from my old blemishes are still there so I am still waiting for them to fade but I feel so much more confident with my skin now. I am noticing every single day that my skin is getting clearer and clearer. I would never normally go to work without foundation and concealer on but I feel like I could now. It does wonders for your confidence.
Talking of make-up, I also notice that it sits on my face better throughout the day. I have naturally very oily skin and this would cause my makeup to break up and get shiny throughout the day. Although this has not stopped completely it has definitely gotten a lot better. I never thought my skin would look this good by the end of the day. Who knew the power of water?
2. I Am Losing Weight Easier
I was stuck on a plateau at one point during my healthy eating and I just couldn't seem to lose any more weight. That is until I started drinking more water again. Water boosts our metabolism and cleanses our insides. This gave my body the kickstart it needed and flushed out all the toxins and water weight my body was holding on to.
I also found that because I was filling up on the water I was no longer getting as hungry as often. It suppressed my appetite significantly. There were actually times when I felt full up because of how much I had drank, but not in an uncomfortable way. This meant that I wasn't eating as much, especially snacking.
I never normally drink anything other than water. I'm not into sugary drinks, alcohol or hot drinks. I can imagine though, that if you do drink lots of the above, this amount of water could quench your thirst enough for you not to want them. This could save you a lot of sugar and calories each and every day.
3. I Feel Better and More Refreshed
To be honest I was fully expecting to drink a lot of water one day and then wake up the next day feeling like a new person. This didn’t happen. I have however noticed that over time I do feel more revive and clearheaded. It can be sometimes hard to feel because it is slight and it is gradual. But on one day where I forgot to drink anywhere near as much as I have been, I noticed the shift in my body. Sometimes you can only notice the difference made when you go backward for a day or two.
I often used to wake up in the morning feeling dehydrated. You know when the insides of your nose and your fingertips feel super dry and your breath catches when you breathe in wrong? That used to happen to me a lot and for the longest time I thought it was normal and I didn't associate it with me not drinking enough water. Ever since I have been vigilant about drinking though, it has not happened once. Waking up in the morning is a much better experience, I wake up feeling more refreshed and ready to go.
Now, when I first started I was peeing a lot. I mean like every 45 minutes. I was thinking, "I can't live like this!", I honestly thought that I was going to pee this often forever as long as I continued drinking this much. But after a while, my body got used to it. I am peeing more often than was normal for me - that is a given - but not a ridiculous amount. It kind of feels good though because I am aware of my body flushing out the bad stuff and allowing more goodness in.
I am loving how drinking more water is making me feel and the good it is doing for my body. I am definitely going to keep it up and continue. It is so worth investing in one of these tracker bottles if you want to try to achieve what I have and actually stick to it. They look pretty, they're practical and best of all, they work.
Are you going to try drinking more water this year?
