20 Fun Things to Do This Spring/Summer That Won't Break the Bank
Finally, Spring is here which means brighter skies, warmer weather, and bigger smiles. Plus Summer is right around the corner too so even better. I like to think in advance of what I want to do in the nice weather as I like to make the most of it every day. I hope this list inspires you to get outside and think about what to do this spring and summer. Plus most of these are completely free so you have no excuse.
1. Have a Picnic
A classic Spring and Summer activity. I wish I could make every day a picnic, whether you have it in your garden or at your nearest park it will feel so nice to eat outdoors and relax. My fiance and I use this picnic backpack. It has lasted us ages, comes with a great sized blanket and plenty of space for all your food. Plus it is so much easier to carry than a basket.
2. Walk Through the Woods
This Spring I have a new found love for Woods. There is just something about being underneath the trees, walking next to a cute little stream and hearing the birds. This could be the best form of meditation.
The evenings are warming up. I miss having a trampoline where I would take a blanket out and just lie down with my boyfriend staring at the sky and having deep chats about our future.
4. Eat Your Dinner in the Garden
Why not switch things up? Instead of just having your dinner in front of the television or at your dining room table just eat it at your garden table. It's so nice to just be in the outdoors having a normal meal as the sun begins to go down. You could even light a candle and turn it into date night.
5. Go For a Bike Ride
Yes, my favourite thing about this time of year is getting the bikes out of the garage. I love going for bike rides. I am lucky that I live near a cycle path which connects to loads of lovely little green areas and woods. We just get outdoors, sometimes take the dog and make a day out of it. Great way to keep fit too!
6. Make a Fruit Pie
Now is such a lovely time to go fruit picking. Whether you have trees or shrubs in your garden or you go to a 'Pick Your Own' Farm you can put these to good use in a cute little pie and eat to your heart's content.
7. Read a Book in the Sun
This is such a good season to get away from the technology and get back to basics. I love reading, it is so relaxing and I can spend hours doing so. So why not set up a little reading nook in your garden or even just go to the park on your own and settle down.
8. Visit an Outdoor Pool
Living in the UK outdoor pools aren't really a thing but we do have a few Lido's that we can visit not too far away. There is something about swimming outdoors that is so much more fun than inside. Stay away from the Spa Lidos as they are normally overpriced but if you just visit one where it is simply the pool and maybe a cafe you can have a super fun and cheap day out.
9. Go on a Boat Trip
One of my favourite feelings is having the wind in my face whilst on a boat in the sunshine. That is my idea of pure bliss. If you live near a river or the sea, boat trips generally aren't too expensive.
10. Explore Your City
Just go for a walk around your hometown and get lost down streets you have never been before or in parks you have never explored. I love getting a bit of headspace outside when I am feeling down or just need a little refresh. You can listen to the world around you and really take everything in. Otherwise, this is a great time to catch up on your favourite podcasts or audiobooks.
11. Visit a Village
I love to visit cute little villages or towns around the UK when I have a couple of days to spare. Especially those that are near water and where you can just mosey around the local shops.
12. Take Your Dog Out for the Day
I love a good dog walk and when the weather is nice (however, not too hot) I like to spend the entire day out with my dog. Taking her to places that she will love to run around and sniff. I have taken her to forests, beaches and will take any excuse to bring her along with me. Remember to keep your dog cool and hydrated - this collapsible bowl makes it easy to hydrate your dog on the go.
13. Visit the Beach
Now this might be an obvious one but there is nothing more lovely than visiting a beach in the SouthWest of England when the summer starts kicking in. If you get there early in the morning you can walk along the water almost alone and chill out for the rest of the day there.
14. Plant a Garden
Again, the perfect time to spend some time in your garden and start making it look beautiful. Pick flowers or shrubs in your favourite colours or even plant some fruit and vegetables. This can then help you save on groceries in the future.
15. Visit a Food Market
I love markets, when the weather is nice it's great to have a look around the stalls and pick up some seasonable fruit and veg. And a major plus if they have street food as well.
16. Sit in A Pub Garden
For most of us Brits, this is one of the first things we do when the sun comes out. Get to your local pub, order a refreshing drink and waste the afternoon sitting in the pub garden with your friends. And you can take your dog along.
17. Book an AirBnB
Ok so this isn't as cheap as the others but it is easier than ever to spend a weekend away from home. With Airbnb you can get rooms for really great prices, some amazing countryside properties have great walks and local pubs. A lot will accept dogs and have beautiful gardens to sunbathe in. Sign up here and get £25 in travel credit.
If you don't know what this is, all over the world there are hidden caches. If you download the app you can look for them using clues and co-ordinates. Then when you find it you can sign your name and comment on the cache on the app. You won't believe how many there are all over the planet. Another great excuse to get outside and wander to places you wouldn't normally visit. Also, the app is free.
19. Have a Water Fight
Most adults say that they miss being a kid. I don't - being an adult means I get to do what I want when I want and that includes acting like a kid if I feel like it. People forget that you can still do fun and childlike things as an adult, especially us girls. So get the hosepipe out, set up the slip and slide and have some fun. I have this Slip & Slide and I can tell you it is so much fun - and super cheap too.
20. Take Photos
This weather is perfect for getting out and taking snapshots of the world around you. The flowers are starting to bloom and there is more wildlife around so get creative. Don't have a camera? You can use your phone or even sit and sketch.
Hope you loved these suggestions. I love doing every single one of these when teh weather gets warmer. What are your plans for this summer? Please comment below.
